Hi

My name is Ann and I was diagnosed with T2 about 10 days ago. I'd only gone to see the nurse because I thought I had a urine infection. She tested my urine sample and discovered no infection but lots of glucose in it. On doing the finger prick test she discovered my blood glucose levels to be 12.4 and promptly put me on Metformin.

Oh what joy the lavatorial side effects of Metformin have been...NOT!

On seeing the nurse today for a follow up she's put me on the slow release version so I hope to see an improvement in my toilet habit!

Another newbie - just joined - but been lurking for a while
Diagnosed Type2 1st November last year after routine blood tests for double knee replacement scheduled for beginning of April - absolutely no symptoms. Metformin (in increasing doses) over 4 weeks had no effect so started on insulin (Novomix 30) on 29th November.
Advised to have am fasting level between 5 and 7 and 2 hours after meals under 10. Since starting on insulin have put on 5kg (from 75 to 80) - endo and diabetic nurse seem to feel it's quite normal. I'm not happy and fortunately dietician is with me!! - So since Friday starting to reduce carbs even lower than the 10 to 12 serves a day I'd initially been recommended.

Ha ha, who knows - but 2 years between us - reckon our mothers would definitely have noticed!!

Dietician is only young but very pleasant - and I think from what she's said, that she is very happy to deal with someone who wants to do the right thing and is probably at a considerably lower starting point than most of her clients.

She is definitely promoting lo-carb, but isn't over keen on the high fat combination - she reckons I should be eating more proteins - so have been trying that out a little over the last few days

Hi guys! I'm Nicole and I live in Queensland, Australia. I was diagnosed at the age of 24, I have been living with this disease for 14years. Like many of the people on here I was given and followed incorrect advice on the best way to manage my diabetes for many years but happy to report I am on the right track now! I am a supported living facilitator in the disability field although sometimes I think my profession should be world traveller I first left home when I was 21 and I have been travelling off and on ever since. I have travelled to many places and it is way to hard to pick a favourite. I am finally off to explore Iceland in September and I cannot wait! Am I rich? I think I so, rich in unforgettable experiences and wonderful memories, the best kind of rich in my opinion!
