Hi all, Joe...Canadian, 50 years of age but not Diabetic, however it runs in my family so it is a concern. My late father had it as did my great grandmother....my Dad seemed to think it perhaps skipped a generation with us, and I have 3 kids so I'm hoping they don't develop it. Both my Great Gran and my Dad developed the disease later in life....my Dad was around my age when he was diagnosed and lived to be 75.

Anyway....cheers all, looking forward to some discussion and learning, only just joined the site.

Hi. My name is John and and am 77 years old. I have T2 diabetes . I was given this information when in Hospital after a heart attack in 2015. My third one. They had just fitted me with three stents. My blood sugar was over 400. I should say at this point that I live in Spain. I felt so much better after that time in Hospital and have continued to improve ever since. My blood sugar now is between 100 and 120 most days. The cardiologist told me last month that my heart was now in good condition and I do not need to report for checks any more.
My wife keeps me under strict food control. I have lost 20 kilograms in weight in the last two years. Started to try and lose weight after eight months of chemotherapy for Hodgkins cancer. I had too much fat around my liver. Did not lose much weight until I was diagnosed with Diabetes. As soon as I stoped sugar and white bread plus a few other thing that I liked. The weight came off quickly. The cancer has not shown any reappearance for almost five years but I still have to have a check up and blood test once a year.
I have set up a small workshop in a spare bedroom and make wood toys. This keeps my mind from deteriorating any more. Still get tired after two hours of light work. But it is getting better.
All in all I am very lucky and I live where the sun shines most days and the Health Service is very good.

Hi. I'm Linda. 50ish. Canadian. A 'carer'. (thanks for the category. It's great!)

My partner is in his mid 40s and was diagnosed as type 2 eight or nine years ago. He has a horrid family history of heart disease and diabetes. Neither of us had much hope for a future without amputations, blindness, etc. We recently moved to the mountains 'for our physical and mental health' and though we were exercising more and there were slight improvements in blood pressure and sugars, he wasn't losing much weight or seeing significant changes.

A few weeks ago he stumbled across a TedX talk

Reversing Type 2 diabetes starts with ignoring the guidelines | Sarah Hallberg | TEDxPurdueU that struck a chord. Much reading/watching ensued and on the first day of spring we started on a LCHF diet. No rice, no bread, no potatoes, some vegetables like carrots spinach, broccoli, etc.

Within a week his blood sugars had plummeted, his blood pressure was down, and he was starting to reduce medications. I actually cried. It was so awful to imagine that someone you love will suffer horribly in the future and there is nothing to be done other than 'manage' and 'wait'. After all this time to find something so easy, pleasant (I Love broccoli and cheese sauce!) logical (!!) and satisfying is nothing short of miraculous! We have HOPE now for the future in a way we never had before!

I am also incredibly ANGRY at the institutional resistance to this! Absolutely furious! I think of my father who is now 80 and has struggled for years with his weight and health. How much would he have loved to eat steak and cheese with relative abandon!! It is nothing short of a crime!

Anyway. This website and DietDoctor.com as well as other videos etc. are invaluable. Thanks so much and keep up the good work!!
