Licence expired

My licence expired some years ago. I have not had a car in the meantime but I am now in a position to buy a car and drive again.

I am T1 and have not had any hypo's requiring assistance in recent years fortunately. Eye test last month was all good.

My old licence was not revoked, it simply lapsed. I have moved house since but still have the old now expired licence.

Does this technically mean that I have surrendered my licence?

Do I simply apply for a new licence (form D1) and then fill in DIAB1? And send to Drivers Medical Group at the DVLA?

Yes that's all you do @T1Driver , I've just sent off the forms to renew my licence.

Edit to add, make sure you return your paper licence with the application form.
