My brother has trouble swallowing the 'huge' metformin tablets and if he doesn't take them with a meal, has a sandwich to help them on their way. Does anyone use a liquid version of metaformin and if so how does it compare with tablets?

Metformin is available as an oral solution, but not as a slow release oral version.

Hi there. If your brother is having issues, has he tried halving the tablets? The slow release tablets shouldn't be halved, as that negates their slow acting way of working, but the more regular Metformin is fine to half.

I do think there is a liquid variant, but his GP might resist prescribing it. I understand it likely to be more expensive that the tablet versions.

I hope he sorts something out.
