HbA1c tests are blood tests that give an average blood glucose reading for about the last 3 months. It is an excellent way of judging how low, or high, your readings are.

Try Googling 'HbA1c test' for more details.

Sorry, I can't contribute anything about memory loss and tablets.

Hba1c is a reading which represents the average blood sugar level for the last three months.
Thanks a lot ! I have already printed this off this morning, cheers anyway, Ive found very little on the subject tho....my son cannot remember a thing about an incident that occured,,,, he seriously cannot remember and was feeling ill and confused for 12 hours after ....it is so worrying.

Your son cannot remember an incident? I know of no information on this. I assumed he was suffering a general loss of memory which is what diabetes and some pills reputedly do.

not just an incident ....a complete loss of memory of what happened for a couple of hours ....he was feeling poorly in a casino and went to leave, on his way out the security asked him to leave as they said he looked as tho he had had enough to drink....he was then arrested and taken to the police station where he was breathalized twice and passed the breathalizers both times within a 2 hour interval...he was then too ill to be questioned for several hours .....hence the reason Im asking if it could have had anything to do with his type 2 diabetes ??

yes, the incident happened on 7th March and the bloods were done about 2 weeks ago, they came back abnormal...then the doctor offered him the tablets for type 2, my son asked if there was an alternative other than tablets and he was told he could try losing a bit f weight to see if that helped ? he also has tingling in hands and feet and chest pains...they gave him a spray for the chest pains....he is in custody so thats why I am so so worried about him.

It sounds a bit like a hypo. This can result in odd behaviour. Is that a possibility?

Do these symptoms sound familiar.

yes a lot of these symptoms apply to him....but can these symptoms happen if you are a type 2 and not 1 and on no medication at all ....they had to call a doctor in as he was confused...sweating and didnt realize where he was ...they asked if he had taken any drugs, which he hadnt,...they had to wait over 12 hours until he was capable of an iinterview, I have searched and searched and most of the findings are scholarly postings, which I dont understand, any help will be gratefully appreciated, Thanks for replying.

It is certainly unusual for someone to have a hypo if they are not on medication but nevertheless it is quite possible. Even non diabetics can have very low sugar under certain circumstances. Not eating and lots of exercising don't help.

Your son could have some unknown problem if he is becoming diabetic. You asked about the Hba1c. Do you have that reading. It might be clue.

yes he is still in custody ...and all they told him was that his bloods were abnormal and he definately had diabetes type 2 .... he has known this for over a year before this happened, he still has terrible chest pains, the prison doctor said he is sending him to an outside hospital for tests but theses can take up to 3 months !!

As I said, it all sounds a bit like a hypo but the circumstances suggest it was more likely that he was hyper. This is also dangerous with slightly different symptoms but can result in passing out.

I think he may well have suffered an incident but only the doctor on call will know exactly what..

Here is a link to read about hyperglycemia.

I just re-read this thread.

The doctor said he could try losing a bit of weight which means he is over weight

An "abnormal" Hba1c

Tingling in hands and feet

Chest pains

An incident where he got arrested. He must have done more than tried to leave the casino.

Fairly classic signs of an uncontrolled Type 2 diabetic in my opinion. The chest pains might be disputed as a symptom but there are quite a few heart surgeons out there that now think that sugar is the cause of heart disease and not cholesterol. For what it's worth it makes sense to me.

Here is a link to an Australian TV program that brings out the evidence. It is not accepted by all parties as the programme will show. There is a part 2 programme.
