Metformin wind

I was diagnosed as diabetic type 2 a couple of weeks ago, and they've put me on metformin 500mg twice a day. I have noticed that i get a sore tummy after taking them, and produce quite a lot of foul smelling wind. I've always gotten really tired and sleepy after eating, so that is nothing new.

Is this normal?

I don't take met myself. But rest assured there will be plenty of acounts of this issue regarding the side effects of the medication.

So much so that some members have changed the "formin" part of the med name to the "slang" for flatulence..

It's quite common apparently!
