MILK and Diabetes

Erm, anything with carbs in it is not the best for a diabetic, I bet you can google any food and find the health benefits of it from somewhere

The NHS diet guidelines say you should eat starchy carbs with every meal because its good for you, you won't find 1 person here that does that as is not healthy for a diabetic.

I believe like may here a low carb, Sugarfree diet is the best way forward for controlling your BG levels, it's a bit of a steep learning curve, but once you know it's quite easy to do. I keep to a maximum of 35g carbs per day it's a very low carb diet, but as soon as I have anything with more carbs in it my levels shoot up.
Hello, there are many varied diets here used by individuals we are all so,different...
Same with milk , for me it is unsweetened almond milk , again personal,choice....
Lots to think about with diets and your own needs...
Lot of choice of milk to explore these days .....
Best wishes Kat

An awful lot.
Coldwar l started by following Vivs modified atkins diet and branched out from there as my confidence grew, l thought it would be hard but it isnt at all :) my bs are around 4.9 to 5.6 just last few days been high for me the joys of ***** **** **** periods

luckymilk l have t2 and +/- 30gram of carbs a day. If you are new l suggest you read the forum properly about low carb high fat eating plan which many of us are on. People do not need cabs in the amounts eaten in fact some folks are lower than me on the carb front.
The body utilises fat for energy....the thing called insulin that the t2 pancreas pours out to make use of carbs and starches we shovel in that the gods of nhs tell us to eat carbs which stops our body's utilizing fat and makes us store it and keeps bg unstable.
Many t1 on here lower carb (around 70 to 100grm from what l read of their comments) because the need to inj less insulin. Yes someone said they are different...they are but also similar hence all under diabetes umbrella.

We are quite frankly specialists of our own condition do NOT presume to lecture me about taking idiots advice in the nhs l have learnt more from "unlearned" people here and in fact a Dr from this site has produced a paper which lots of us have copied to our "specialists" which won the BMJ competition runner up this yr and advice from dietdoctor.com and the Swedish health service who now advise all diabetics and obese to lchf and pockets of enlightened health people in uk and elsewhere who understand basic diet.

Yes it is up to every person to find what works that includes you but according to your profile your bs are unstable so l would prefer to follow advice from those who are stable t2 or t1

Lost track but someone said t1 should eat more carbs all they have to do is inj more That seems a crazy attitude better to use a base diet to hold inj down why take more artificial when with a bit of effort can help not inject more

Those discussing milk think you are looking at fat content at the 4% comment not carb content. We have full fat goats milk as hub is lactose intolerant. Goats milk has lactose but the molecular structure s different and a lot smaller so absorbable and doesn't cause bloat etc. for him and the 200ml l have some nights doesn't affect my bloods. l have cream in my coffee but am trying to drink more h20 in the day so only have about 5 coffees in a day all at home not at work.
Many people who are lactose intolerant can enjoy goats milk. and everyone who is lactose intolerant can eat cheese as lactose is not part of the chemical process that produces cheese. (useless info that may help some)

Rice is no go of any sort for me :( others are fine yogurt spikes me others are fine as stated testing is the key...those who like coffee with milk try 3 teaspoons of single cream instead ;)

Any suggestions please? I love my milk and normally go through about a pint a day but should I change to lactose free? BM now 13.1 after tea but has been 8-13 for the last week. I started a new job and I didn't realise the chef uses FULL FAT milk in everything, cream etc. The food is gorgeous! Unfortunately my BSs are suffering and I am taking my own meals in now. Sob!

There are about 28 grams of carb in a pint of milk - that is an awful lot if you are diet controlled type 2.
The fat is not the important factor - higher fat does help to slow down the absorption of sugars sometimes, but it has no insulin response on its own.

What else came with the FULL FAT milk? It is more likely the carbs that is keeping your levels high...

I drink about a third of a pint of full fat milk per day and my BS are ok. I think it's like all things with diabetes we all react differently and there is no 'one size fits all'.

I use milk in my homemade Chai made of black tea, cinamon, cardamom and clove seeds .. 100 ml MILK to a big mug , then the cinamon lowers the effect of the carbs in the milk..(some also add pepper and ginger ). and it is healthy and taste wonderfull-

there are many wonderful variations of Chai , but we all can choose our favorite, but the cinnemon is very good for lowering blood glucose a bit -
