wot's the anti histamine for? And Tosh, methinks you're going to get very bored and fed up with the mostly grazing items on your list. I also love omelettes, but can't eat them every day. Good luck with the celery, :sour:

Hope your list improves honey. xx

I agree about the popcorn. Quite carby and not great nutritionally. I am not good with carrots, but many are. The list looks more like fuel than lovely meals, but if that helps you focus, then good luck :)

Do you like courgettes? You can use it instead of spaghetti. Make ribbons with a potato peeler, steam or quickly boil and make a sauces with chopped toms, onions etc, Top with grated cheese.

Use Cauliflowers chopped in a food processor or even gated instead of rice to serve with curry or chilli. Roast cauli instead of potatoes. Or look up cauliflower popcorn!

Yoghurt -especially Greek, with berries. I am vegetarian and most Quorn products are low carb.
Cheese and cottage cheese
Atkins bars are great for chocolate cravings, the coconut one is just like Bounty
Get the book Carbs and Cals it is really useful and very surprising where those naughty carbs wait for us.

I have been using the anti-histamine tabs for over three years. I tend to get red patches of skin that itch

I thought that popcorn was no calorie and that's why it is on the list. If not i will be taking it off.

Are you able to have Philadelphia with celery to dip in?

The cherry tomatoes will be replacing my 2 pints of orange juice

I'll be adding courgettes as well cucumbers -

So at the moment my list is -

Cherry Tomatoes
Egg Omelets
Celery (possibly with Philadelphia)
Black Coffee (No Sugar)
Carrots
Water
Benecol (1 daily)
MAYBE Popcorn
Omega fish oil tablets (1 daily)
anti - Histamine tablets (1 daily)
Vitamin B & Vitamin D tablets (1 daily)
Cucumber
Courgettes

Is there anything else that I can add on this list? Can I have red leicester cheese or dairy lee spreadable and which bread can I have

Butter is better than marg, more natural. I spread peanut butter on my celery.....yum.

I love cheese its great for Bg levels too.

its the carbs you need to watch more than calories.

I'd highly recommend you check out the diet doctor site which will give you a list of the kind of foods to avoid and to keep in your diet. Margarine is a definite no-no for me - butter every time.

Livlife bread or Burgen bread are two of the lower carb breads you could try.

Depends what sort of diet you are going to follow? You need to get that bit sorted out first as some foods allowed on a Low Carb High Fat diet are not allowed on a Low Calorie Diet. A lot of people on here advocate following the Low Carbing type of diet as it has worked for them, but we are all individuals and what works for one dosen't work for another. I've ordered myself 3 new low carb and diabeties books, already had paleo books, Dukan Diet Books, to name a few, but I do believe a low carb diet is the way forward for diabetics, but I'm new to it, haven't really tried it properly yet and so am not the best person to advise on it really. Scandichic, amongst others gave me some good advise on the subject, so I think you need to check out all the forums and discussions going on to see what others are doing. This site is invaluable for all sorts of advise and support. xx

If you have a lot of weight to lose, you might also consider doing the Newcastle Diet.

I'd be writing a list of things not to put on my shopping list, they would be:
Bread (some are ok with Burgen or Livlife bread)
Potatoes
Rice
Pasta
Flour and other grains
Breakfast cereals
Cakes
Biscuits
Low fat things (usually filled with sugar to make them taste better
Vegetables that grow below ground (although I'm ok with raw carrots).

I agree that the diet doctor website is a good place to start.

Tosh, are you going to be eating your carrots raw, or cooked?

Because carrots are root veg designed to store energy for the plant, they are higher in starchy carbs than leafy green veg, or things like courgettes, peppers, aubergines...

I react to raw carrots fine. Don't notice any blood glucose rise at all.

Cooked carrots, on the other hand... Well, it ain't as bad as potatoes, but it does depend on how big the portion is...

If you want a crunchy satisfying piece of veg, I vote for sugar snap peas. Yum. Raw or cooked.

Weird that cooked carrots affect you B. A plateful of cooked sliced carrots (80g) is only 4 carbs. A plate of 120g is only 6 carbs.
