I came across this article this morning - apparently there has been an exercise handbook created specifically for people with type 1. I'm somewhat baffled as exercise has always been a part of my diabetes management but I guess it's not for others.

Apparently the study behind this handbook or guide was published in the Lancet - here's the link to the abstract for anyone interested.

Yes - it's published by the JDRF. FOr many people, exercise is q scary prospect with T1 and insulin, and if you consider that many find it difficult to manage glucose levels both during, immediately after and a long time after, you can understand why they see this as beneficial!

thanks for 1st link ( i cannot get to the lancet study). Re your being baffled, you are lucky!! or a fairly new type one with some of your own insulin and therefore other regulating hormones that are let out with your own insulin - eg amylin plus c-peptide etc - on board? I have just posted an answer to someone asking re swimming - long ago, when not on the pump, i reluctantly gave that up after years of trying - not worth one pass out in deep water, and night hypos messing my brain for days after. i will be very interested to read through your 1st link in more detail. Thanks again

Nope far from a new type 1 - I've been living with it for over 50 years - I grew up more physically active than most as my parents noticed it was much easier to manage my condition and this was at a time when there was still much unknown about type 1. I'm 55 now and in far better shape than most 55 year old males who don;t have diabetes. I'm convinced excercise right from early childhood and on is key to probably managing any condition just not diabetes - but that's just a theory :)
