Type of diabetes
Type 1
Treatment type
Insulin
I am still taking fresh foods and a little fat to burn on a ketogenic diet as I have no insulin to remove the carbs. So my body is making energy from ketones rather than from carbs.
No, your body is not making "energy" from ketones rather than carbs. Whoever told you that is a quack. We call the production of ketone bodies to use as energy in the absence of our making insulin to enable glucose to enter our cells as "DKA" (diabetic ketoacidosis). That eventually ends in death. I'd suggest you see a specialist in diabetes. And forget the garbage about supplements, snake oil, and "stimulants" to make a difference. If you're truly a Type 1 diabetic and you don't take insulin I don't think it's going to turn out very well for you. A so-called "zero carb diet" will not turn out any differently for a true Type 1 diabetic. They used to try that before the administration of exogenous insulin was made available to diabetics. It took longer but it came out the same in the end.

I don't think that I would have type 1 because I probably don't have the antibodies .My blood produces false positives to the whole range of autoimmune disorders which is possibly due to my having multiple allergies. My dad was type 2 which he became in his late twenties and had to live on restricted carbs and meds but he did alright and lived until his mid 50s without the complications. He did not say that he was suffering from a neuropathy or pain in his feet. I have been very healthy because I was being careful to not over eat anything likely to cause diabetes and was saying to my self that I don't have any of the problems of old age being nearly 60. I am not even going grey. So I am so annoyed at being in this situation where I suddenly (overnight) started suffering from diabetes and need to use insulin and suddenly suffered from the neuropathies all at the same time. .Anyway removing visceral fat and other cures are hopeful, but I had just lost 2 stone before I started suffering with this. It is good that the future is looking good for people who suffer from dead islet cells because of stem cell research. They are also developing blocking antibodies to control the autoimmunity.

I started suffering from high ketones in my blood when I was on all the drugs and taking the green light foods that the diabetic centre advise. So I may have been starting ketoacidosis as the drugs were not able to deal with the high sugars, but that is now under control on the very low to zero carb diet. I am getting some ketones in my urine but is quite low. The blood glucose monitor has not indicated ketones since I stopped the drugs and changed my diet. I think that the ketosis diet is alright for me and there are some doctors on the internet who advocate this at least in the short term. My consultant asked me to see the low cal diet and research by Dr Roy Taylor. there's a youtube video of his public lecture which is over one hour long on reversing Type 2 diabetes. Anyway there is a whole industry behind ketogenic weight loss as it is used by atheletes and people who want to lose weight. I find it difficult to maintain the very low calorie diets so I am on this one. I think that I have lost about 1/2 a stone and my blood glucose levels are starting to improve. I don't feel hungry on this even though I have to limit the protein intake which will cause the blood glucose to rise, but this should be alright for people on meds. Some people stop the drugs and just live on meat and fat and claim to have sustained that for many years. However since I'm a veggie I dont have the meat but have some energy. I am worried about clogging up my arteries which may be caused by animal fats so I am just taking coconut oil or olive oil which have the right type of fatty acids. I found that taking a tablespoon of coconut oil was able to lower my blood glucose by 4 mmol/l. I sometimes forget to hydrate myself and may be the cause of some ketones in my urine in the morning.
