hi I need help... I used to be pretty healthy, I worked out and ate very little. But over the past year I have been stressed with exams and stopped working out and ate more. I was 165lbs. Now I'm 215. I'm trying but I really feel like I can't stop eating. My friends are constantly calling me fat, and I look a lot fatter than 215. No clothes fit me. Iv had to buy new sizes 3 times. Help me?!?!? And why do I look so huge for my weight? I have many heavier friends who look normal :(

How tall are you? How tal and heavy are your freinds

You're approaching 100kg. I'm 67kg and 1.75m tall, BMI in the low 20's.

Important question though is not whether you think you look fatter than your friends, but are you planning on doing anything about it?

I have the perfect diet for you!

If you stick to this the lbs will fall off. I have lost 2 stone 11lbs since 28th of Jan.
You will not feel hungry and you don't have to weigh anything. My hubbie has lost 2 stone 6lbs. I still have a way to go. I too felt out of control. Not anymore! Good luck on your journey! By the way, the guy who writes the blogg is a Swedish doc, who specialises in obesity and diabetes.

Ryan, you don't say here whether you are T1 or T2, or an "other" type.

Whilst scandichick and Jack are right to point out the importance of diet, you cannot get around the need to up your exercise as well.

Whether T1 or T2, reducing your carb intake is likely to help as it will reduce your insulin need or your insulin production and hence the likelihood of the secondary use of insulin as a fat storage hormone.

You don't say what exercise you are doing now, but if you are finding the belly getting in the way, find other things to to for now until you can get it down a bit. I would start by long brisk walks, lunchtime or walk to/from work if you can, swimming lengths burns a fair few calories as well, or slow steady rowing. The importance here is to get a decent duration of exercise in without taking in additional carbs as you need to reduce circulating carbs first to up the fat burning (it's a continuum). Buy yourself a heart rate monitor and work at a low heart rate, 130-140 would be a good starting point, get too high and you'll be burning almost exclusively carbs not fat.

I'm not an exercise professional, but I can give general advice if you like

Hi there ryanharvey,

These are great suggestions from people here - changing your diet will do a lot to help you lose weight.
Have you been tested for diabetes at all? Just wondering if your 'can't seem to stop eating' is diabetes, or pre-diabetes related. Great if it isn't, but it might be worth considering why you can't stop eating. (are you eating more because you're stressed, unhappy or just eat when you're bored etc, or is there a hormonal trigger)

So you've put on some weight - it happens to us all! What's great though is that you want to get yourself back to a fitter, trimmer you. The fact that you've posted on the forum is a step in the right direction.
To help with motivation with exercise, you could consider joining @Jamrox thread Sporty Forty, where it's about trying to fit in forty minutes or so of exercise every day (even if that's climbing the stairs during TV commercial breaks!) Also - have you thought of joining a gym, and asking for some fitness guidance?

You would be very welcome to join Team Blood Glucose on our next 'event' - last weekend we cycled around Box Hill. Www.teambloodglucose.com

Good luck with your weight loss, and let us know how you get on.:)
