Hi
I have just been diagnosed with type 1. I have informed my insurance company and have filled out the DIAB1 form.
Am I allowed to drive or do I need to wait for my new licence from the DVLA? I live in a rural area and so the nearest bus stop is a two mile walk, which makes it a pain to get anywhere.

Thanks
Adrian

As long as you haven't been advised by your doctors that you shouldn't be drive then you are fine to carry on. Being s type 1, you should test before you get behind the wheel of the car. If your sugars are under four, you shouldn't drive. If they are below five, you should have something to eat/drink first. On long journeys, you have to check every two hours. Always make sure you have glucose tablets, lucozade, or something similar in the car. Also remember to carry your BM with you in case you are ever involved in a prang - the police may ask to see that you have tested.

Sounds like a bit of a pain but it's really not :)
