Hi all, ellie started the omnipod this week, things aren't going too bad so far.

When she was on injections she would run high for a while after eating certain foods such as pizza, pasta, McDonald's. I've noticed that you can split/extend the bolus with pumps. I know everyone is different but was just wondering what kind of split/extend people use when eating these foods?

Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope you all have a great christmas x

Hi @Ellie's mum
good news -- what you said above
bad news -- sort of trial and error

if I have a macdonalds I tend towards a 70/30 split over 1 hour
pizza is a 60/40 over 1 hour
pasta I bolus all at eating ( but that is just me )

that is for me !!

It depends on what kind of those foods Ellie eats. I'd talk to a dietician to learn about GI Index (how long food takes to break down) and to learn about extensions.

Nine times out of ten I use 60:40 with 0.5hrs extension. But for certain foods, it requires 40:60 extension for longer, and even 35:65 for 4-8 hours.

Sometimes it is just trial and error but with the Omnipod, life is a lot easier than on injections!

I hope this helps in some way x
