Hi Mollymini, are you on any other medication? Has your doctor said what he or she thinks is causing the pain?

Hi @Mollymini1920, please be aware that naproxen can affect your blood sugars. Test regularly while your taking them. If you need something long term then it may be worth going back to your GP to discuss it. Sue xx

I was told to stop Naproxen for the above reasons, but only take it if I'm desperate with Omeprazole. I believe Metformin and naproxen are not best of friends either. How about Ibuprofen or Voltarol cream?

Are you on any other medication? Some medications can cause leg pain.

Yes I am on metformin 500 mg Glimepride and tranjenta 5mg
The reason I asked about meds was that statin drugs often seem to cause leg pain. Did your pain start or get worse after you started trajenta or glimepride? It's possible that it could be a side effect of one of these meds, and if you think it might be, then it would be a good idea to discuss it with your doctor. There may be alternative drugs that work better without the side effects. There might also be room to lower your blood sugars through reducing the amount of carbs you are eating.

I restrict my coffee to 2 cups a day. Cutting it out all together I'd probably have no pain. My niece has the same problem (she's a nutritionist).

Hi! Molly

I suffer from this condition as well as extreme episodes of muscle cramps. Not found a cause or treatment for cramps but I have sleep apnoea and my specialist advised that I have what is called "Restless Leg Syndrome" This was only found when I had a sleep test. I now use a CPAP machine at night to manage this.

Unfortunatley the cramp now negates the effectiveness of the CPAP.

Hi Devans, I have sleep apnoea too, as well as restless legs syndrome. There are drugs that can treat RLS. Have you been back to your specialist about this? If your legs are moving too much while asleep, it will be interrupting your sleep and you will have effects from that. It's so important to get this under control, especially with diabetes as well. Have you had your blood pressure checked recently? High BP can be one of the effects of interrupted sleep.

I've been diagnosed with RLS after a night in a sleep clinic. The only drug on offer was the one for Parkinson's which has the side effect on a few of radically altering their character. I turned them down on that one. In many ways the body heals itself with the right lifestyle, 18 years though and I'm still waiting!

There are about 4 RLS drugs that I know of, I'm on one that helps me a lot. The body may heal itself of some conditions, but there are a great many that only heal with proper medical treatment.

Unfortunately proper has never quite come along in my experience. The roll call of illnesses that got fixed by diet (and now with the help from this forum) is pretty legion.
