Wow. Awesome. I just need to cut more.
Currently my breakfast to lunch is bulletproof coffee. Lunch is along the lines of a simple leafy salad with a little ham. And dinner is usual fare, meat and veg.

I still need to take insulin though, which is where my problem lies.

Sorry this went off topic.

What are your sugar levels like eating that way? I'm a bit surprised that you're not low.
Am I correct in thinking your diagnosis is a bit uncertain at the moment?

For now my BS tends to sit around 11ish. Which might lead me to think my basal needs upping. But I think that would lead me to hypos overnight. I too am surprised my BS isn't lower seeing how few carbs I eat.

As for the diagnosis, I was told I was a T2 then a T1. This I'm told that cannot be, so I could be a LADA or a IDT2 (this is the one I'm going with for now). I'm visiting my specialist in August and will bring up the subject then.

However, I'm not sure how much I trust their knowledge, as they want to put me on Statins!! My cholesterol is a smidge above average (it actually came down some from last year), but because I'm a diabetic and I'm getting older!!!, they still think I should go on them. Madness. They can keep that filth away from me!:stop:

Agree completely on the statins.. but your D variation sounds like a real conundrum.. I see on your blog (great by the way) that you know about Jason Fung so I guess you have heard about his successes with IDT2's but even so I can't see that you have the right diagnosis yet. Good luck with your specialist appt in August. Have you tried e-mailing the good doc and asking his advice or opinion?

Now you mention it I will email the specialist nurses and ask them to send me all my info, and find out about my diagnosis.

update:
email sent. asked for my diabetic records over the last 11 years and what they can do to completely confirm what my condition actually is

I reversed my Type 2
Treatment type
Diet only
  • The sustained enrollment and patient adherence that we saw at 70 days was maintained—82 percent continued enrollment at the one-year mark.
  • Patient HbA1c improved further: 58% of patients in the Virta clinical trial achieved A1c below 6.5% at one year while taking no diabetes medications or metformin only.
  • Use of medications continued to drop: insulin was reduced or halted in 97% of users.
  • And body weight declined from baseline by an average of 13.6 percent. [2]

These should be the kind of results that should inspire and motivate every diabetes clinic...

That was a great read. Thanks for posting @bulkbiker and for the summary @kokhongw. :)

It's beginning... "The preliminary results were presented this week at the 77th annual meeting of the American Diabetes Association by Sarah Hallberg, DO, MS, Medical Director of Virta Health."

In the US, most doctors do not have the staff needed to educate and support their patients in making needed lifestyle changes. Interestingly, it's not just the American Diabetes Association that's slow to support and teach the low carbohydrate diet. I spent a lot of time on the National Kidney Foundation's website last night, and they are doing the same thing by not supporting the low protein diet for those diagnosed with kidney disease even though doctors working with kidney patients sometimes do recommend it. Sound familar?

I recently learned that two of my diabetic friends have stage 3 kidney disease, so I spent a good part of last weekend looking for a diet which I found thanks to a series of posts on a low carb forum previously unknown to me.

I contacted the poster and through a series of emails I learned about the low protein diet she uses along with the low carbohydrate diet. Her results: "...with a high fat, no meat LC diet, and my best creatinine and GFR ever - went from 26 GFR at worst in 4/2015..to 50 in 11/2016...all from no meat, all veggie, VLC/VHF, and taking [essential] aminos [acids]." What's impressive about this is that kidney disease is not reversible, but with this diet you can slow the progression and delay or possibly avoid dialysis. In the next couple of weeks, I'll make an effort to post links to more information on this on the Diabetes Complications area of the forum.
