I have been on plioglitazone for a month today diabetic nurse checked urine and informed me it had a trace of blood in it is there anyone who takes plioglitazone who have had any problems with it any info greatly received

I can't recall anyone who is using this drug @gary 196 but will bump your post up for replies.
What advice were you given about blood in your urine and did your Nurse say it was anything to do with your medication?

There is an article here that says you should inform your HCP if there is blood in your urine.

Stop using pioglitazone and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:


  • stomach pain, blood in your urine;
  • painful urination;
  • feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion;
  • swelling or rapid weight gain;
  • chest pain, general ill feeling;
  • nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing...

Thanks for reply I have an appointment on Friday for gp for tests as for plioglitazone he wants me to stay on it for the time being.
