Brilliant news. I hope they do the trick.

I know there will come a time when they become ineffective but hopefully that time is far off. For now I'm justhappy that treatment has been given. I was due to have this course of injections in January but because of the changes made by the CCG everything was delayed.

Only just seen this @Guzzler
- so pleased the injection went ahead, and you are feeling better!

Can I ask, have you been seen by a specialist in pain management? I do not know what their title would be, or whether they would be a doc or a consultant, or whether you might have to travel, but I know they exist.

A friend of mine on another forum has been suffering from terrible arthritis, and in escalating pain for years. Her doc refused to increase pain meds over a certain level on the grounds of addition and building up a resistance to the drugs. So she has been really suffering. Sleep affected, unable to walk on waking...

Anyway, she attended a physio appt, and the physio said 'why aren't you on stronger meds?' and when my friend explained, she made an immediate referral to 'a specialist pain management doctor' and was given a prescription for something called Butec in a patch delivery system, which is making a HUGE difference to the quality of her life after only a few days of use.

Obviously, I have no idea whether that information is of any use to you, and how you would wrangle a referral, or whether that drug would be appropriate, but thought it was worth a mention...

So pleased that the treatment was able to go ahead for you Guzzler; definitely worth the indignity of baring your ar** to a couple of medics if the result is a blessed relief from the pain you have suffered. Hope life improves for you from here on.

Hi Brunneria. My new GP referred me to a pain management course. The injections are part of that referral and I will start a six week course of what I think may be a kind of CBT next tuesday. I have heard of those patches, they were mentioned before I had my first round of injections as a possible alternative if the injections didn't have any meaningful impact. They have but I know that they won't always work as the condition worsens. I should know within a week if this round has worked but just having it has greatly lightened my mood. Thank you for your support and info.

Thanks, lass. It turned out to be three men in the room and I was asked if I needed a chaperone. I declined as a fourth person didn't need to see my 'lilly white' lol

While I was waiting I asked the pain management nurse if there was a similar procedure for my shoulder. She said to mention it to the anaesthetist which I did and there is. So she is going to refer me for a consult for that as well! So all in all my luck changed and the future looks better. I do not remember how long it has been since I woke up and didn't immediately think 'How bad will the pain be today, what am I going to be able to do today'. Even if the pain free period seems fleeting to other people beleive me when I say that those few short weeks has such a positive impact physically and mentally that it is so worth having any treatment that works.

It doesnt hurt to have such great support from you all, either. Thanks again.

Having had a period of two years with terrible tennis elbow, when I used to wake in the morning and my immediate thought was along the lines of, "how do I get up, shower, dress, go to work and function and get back to this spot, without moving my arm from the bed?"; such was the pain.

I know at that time, if someone had told be the answer was a sustained diet of blue Smarties, I'd have given it a go!

As it was a brilliant Chiropractor, met randomly at a cocktail party, sorted my shoulder (referred pain to the elbow) out in 2 session.

That 2 years is a period I don't want to revisit and I take mild elbow pain seriously these days, and do the exercises.

I get your statement and hope you can really enjoy it for however long it lasts and continue to build on your positive relationship with the pain people. Sustained pain is so incredibly draining - physically, mentally and emotionally, and it impacts other too.

Great early Crimbo present for you. (How could I say that word in November??)

Started with tennis elbow many years ago but what you said about your experience with referred pain from your shoulder is interesting. Perhaps if/when I get treatment for my shoulder it will impact my elbow and thatmay mean I can give up the NSAID I currently take. At least for a while. Thank you.

My issue was mainly shoulder (no pain whatsoever, except in the elbow), but I did have a bit of tweaking up and down my whole spine and pelvis - just to get things back into proper alignment.

There's no doubt, like any other form of treatment Chiropractoring (is that even a word??) isn't for everyone, but it worked well for me.

I now have some exercises I do regularly, which are just some specific stretching, and I do admit when I become too lax for too long, I know it's time to get back with the programme.

Did the Doc make any comment on the dry patch that concerned you so much, or is it time to just lather on the moisturiser every day. Myself? I am a slave to the Shea Butter pot.

It's worth asking about referred pain, though, as the pain has spread to my ribs.

The doctor said the 'wound' wasn't too bad but I would have to see a GP because it wasn't his particular 'field' but the nurse had a shufty and said it was a bedsore and again told me to see a doc. The thing is that it is healing nicely and will definitely be clear by the time I can get an appointment. I now look like an oven ready turkey with having put on so much moisturiser and Aqueous cream. My lilly white really is a liily white!

Update.

It is now six full days since the treatment and today (Tuesday) was my first day with no pain from the waist down. I know from experience that I may get intermittent pain for the next few days but the treatment has, in the past, taken 12-18 days to start to work. I had some horrible pain in my upper back and shoulder due to the position that is required in the process of having the treatment but that has now eased.
My bg has not been good. All weekend I felt very sluggish and my numbers have gone up by 3mmol/4mmol with no signs of coming down yet. However, my mental state has improved immensel and today I have been like a whirlwind (comparatively) so I am happy, happy, happy!

I must say thanks again for the support I got from you all, it was and is much appreciated. This group Rocks!

I am pleased that you feel better i am due for my infusion on Thursday and then about 10 day of being able to manage which is a godsend. The feeling you get when the pain is better is great as you can do things that other people take for granted and the boost it gives your mental health it is like having a new body for a bit. While you are pain free enjoy yourself because these good days so not last long enough, after Thursday i plan to finish my xmas shopping and wrap the kids presents up even though the are 12 and 14!!! If i am lucky they may increase the dose so i can get over xmas i hope yours lasts long enough for you to enjoy your self and with seeing the pain management team they might be able to give you something that can help you have more good days.
