Thyroid (TSH figures)

I went from a 2.6 TSH reading last year to 3.6 this year.

In the UK the normal range is <5 but I think the US has set it to <3.

Can the knowledgeable shed any light on the matter or share their opinions?

I'm wondering what caused the jump?

I'll have another test again in 6 months and am wondering if figures can go up and down unpredictably?

The figures can go up and down over a period of time... As mine have done for the last 26 years!

I have an under active thyroid, but I don't take any medication for it, because I've never shown any of the symptoms and when they did try me on thyroxine I didn't get on with it... So they tested my T4, which is basically the outcome within the blood stream, which is in range so I have my function and T4 tested every 6 months.... And as long as the T4 stays within range then no searches on to find a medication to sort it!

Thanks for the fill in Jopar

If you don't mind sharing, what kind of TSH figures have you been getting? By how much have they fluctuated over periods of a few years?

My doctor (who is approaching retirement and seems to be becoming squirrelly) takes the official line and seeing at my figure is within the range, I doubt I could get her to give me these other tests you mention.
