Yet another drawback of Type 2!
Seriously, although not diagnosed as a T2 until my mid-fifties, I too suffered from this condition until my thirties. I did what you should do and went to see the GP.
He referred me to a surgeon who said he thought that a simple operation to 'loosen' the foreskin might be sufficient, but during the operation (full anaesthetic) a full circumcision was found to be necessary and was carried out.
Very tender for about a week afterwards but then a large tub of E45 was prescribed and that was very pleasant!
Since then, no problems and would recommend it anyway as it's far more hygienic.
