Hi @Barrowbakers

That is a massive weightloss in two months.
It is hard to give an answer to your question, though, without more detail.
Meds? Diet? Are you resting blood glucose? Are you starting with a cold or virus? Anxiety could be for a variety of reasons. Have you been monitored by GP? If not perhaps he or she could be consulted to discuss progress.

well maybe, it is a gigantic shock to almost all of us initially, and so much has to change, you have dived totally into it and done all what you can, and actually, you are doing great when it comes to weight loss... have you also gone low carb... ?

I was so shocked at first, seeing that my future with my daughter might be much shorter than I had imagined before diagnosis, and this death angst and also angst of becoming an invalid really scared the hell out of me, and it is first lately I have started to relax a bit, unfortunately also sin much more when it comes to carbs... but I have learned so much of which one great knowledge is that lower carb eating is the essential in coping with diabetes .. weight loss is great but in my case it hasn´t cured me which I initially hoped and aimed for, and it also was the reason why I went 1000 calories a day for 6 month...

but as many have claimed in this forum..... diabetes is in most cases for good and more of a marathon and not only a short sprint...

I think many get so scared that anxiety actually can invade one's inner mental state ... but try to share in here what your worries are and what you fight with, it is so fine this forum for emotional support ...and it is important to get worries put in the open, but most persons surrounding relatives and friends do really not understand what an earthquake this diagnosis is to one's personality and how much it overflows every breath one take... but in here people do understand, and usually at least some people try to answer and give supportive comments and information and suggestions..

my essential suggestion is that you try to relax just a bit... maybe take 1 day off in a month so that this very militant regimen most of us have to use for being on track almost all the time also have to give place for at least a bit of enjoyment in our individual life... so low carbing most all days , but one day off maybe once in a month so we don´t feel totally strangulated from our old lifestyle..

I am sure some will find this a bad advice.. but an anxiety disorder is also not something to want on top of having type 2 diabetes... but well yes I think it is quite common, but maybe mostly in type 1 diabetics... and in the younger hit type 2 diabetics...
happy to say I feel much more on top of this now and not scared like initially any longer... maybe you can use this, maybe not ...keep asking and sharing. I wish you a fine journey and hope you´ll come on top of this and get this anxiety off your shoulders again

Thank you Freema for a very comprehensive reply. Yes my diet is mainly low carb and all the things I like - biscuits, cake , treats and even alcohol stopped for sake of the diet.
Another stone and I shall be happy - I see my nurse in 4 weeks and see if diet has reduced my bs count which at diagnosis was only 7.
Am on 1 X 500 metformin a day which still upsets stomach but is bearable but wish I had started with diet only - again thank you

Yes I am monitored by a specialist for anxiety. Diet is mainly low carb and meds 1X 500 metformin a day. Only diagnosed 2 months ago with a count of 7

I agree with Pipp. If you "mainly" follow low carb then that amount of weight loss with weakness that is not generalised should urge you to go to see your GP. It may be that the cause is dietary alone but to be on the safe side and to put your mind at risk re weight and anxiety I would, personally, see an HCP straight away. Good luck.

There is nothing to stop you telling your doctor you want to come off them, and then only go back if you have to because he diet is not working.
After all it's your body!
There are a few people on here that have come off metformin, would b good if they could chip in their experience of doing that for the OP in teems of up and down sides.

Hi and welcome,

You say your BS count on diagnosis was only 7. Have you any idea what test this was? Was it your HbA1c test or your fasting blood glucose test? The HbA1c is the usual test for diagnosing diabetes but is often accompanied by a fasting blood glucose test. These tests are very different. The HbA1c is an average of your blood glucose over the previous 2 to 3 months. The fasting blood glucose test is a snapshot of your level at the time of the test. If you aren't sure, then perhaps you could ask at the surgery, and at the same time ask for a print out of the test results - these are very useful both now and in the future.

Can you give us some idea of a typical days food and drinks?
