Hi,
Just new to this site and encouraged by all the real positives here. We are all doing a lot of logging. I’m interested in how you get value from the logging? Is it mainly to monitor for variation in Insulin and carb doses, and then give the detail to your specialist so they can help modify ISF and Insulin: carb ratios? Or is there more? Do you actively monitor every few hours to set a standard regime for the day and then run with it with just occasional tests, or something else???
Would appreciate any ideas
Thanks

I log because I've always dun it and I find it interesting to see what my trends are also in the database I programmed up in excel i have a a1c predictor programmed in and I like to see how close it is to my real number every 4 months, so far its been fair accurate (within a few points - which is cool i find and my endro asexually asked for the file so he could play around with it - gave him a locked version).

Other wise the main reason for the logging is so my endro has an idea how my general glucose is doing day to day - and if the insulin that i'm on is doing its job or does it need to be re evaluated. Because of my numbers going down I was actually taken off of Glumetza (long acting met) and my humalog dosages is still sliding scale but i'm doing it right according to him so he's pleased.

Hi Nyxks,
OK so looks like then for your estimate for your Bolus dose you use your carb count. Do you also apply compensation for hi or lo pre meal BG and whether you have had off normal (hi or lo) activity level? Is so do you also track that to see how good the estimates are?

I was probably one of the worst type 1's ever to keep a bg diary, thank havens for the modern bg meters where you can download your readings.

As Nyxks says, it's handy to record all your results as it helps your HCP's advise you better on your insulin doses, also if your confident enough to adjust your own insulin then you can do so yourself based on the information that you gather. There's some really good bg meters around at the moment that assist in this (Bolus Advisor's) one such meter is the Accu-Chek Aviva Expert, it can advice on bolus doses given the information that you put in, and can also advise on correction doses and such, a really good meter and you should ask your DSN if their clinic has them.

Yes those Bolus advisors look great. In the settings how have you found the effectiveness of the ISF? I find that that does vary based on time of day and also there can be quite a hangover for me from exercise for up to 12 hrs. To get best control I usually need to keep an eye on the trends (BG, Carbs, Bolus, and exercise) for at least 24 hrs. Can be quite difficult if you can only see all that detail for 1 test at a time.
