2006 will see a range of new products and services introduced to treat and combat diabetes, as global levels of the disease and its related complications continue to soar.
The latest figures from the ADA (American Diabetes Association) indicate that almost 15 million people in America have now been diagnosed as diabetics, with a further approximately 6 million unaware that they have developed the disease.
The diabetes treatment and care industry is a large and expanding one, with state healthcare costly. New products are constantly entering the market, and 2006 is set to see new ranges of insulin and hormones. Oral insulin, able to be inhaled, is set to become available soon. New delivery systems such as painless pen and cartridge kits are also set to sweep the market.
New blood glucose monitors take 30/60/90 day readings that may then be downloaded to a computer and mailed to a doctor. Keeping an accurate measure of blood glucose levels and statistics is perceived as being a useful stage in helping diabetics take control of the disease.
Vast amounts of information about diabetes, diet and nutrition is stored on internet sites. Comprehensive resources such as www.diabetes.co.uk can provide information on many aspects of diabetes. Patients seeking information are advised to make sure that web sources are correct.
