Diabetes UK, the leading diabetes charity in this country, is celebrating today after receiving a £90,000 funding boost. The money, delivered by Alliance Pharmacy following a major fundraising drive, will be used to promote healthy lifestyle and raise awareness about diabetes.
Alliance Pharmacy is a large community healthcare company that has branches throughout the UK. They were delighted to provide the money for the charity, with the message: “Our entire workforce are proud to have played their part and will continue to support Diabetes UK going forward.” The fundraising push started in the early winter of 2004, and incorporated a badge appeal and collection tins .
Diabetes UK is a major charity serving the two million plus people who have diabetes in the UK. They have 170,000 members and sponsor numerous diabetes research programs . The charity reportedly spends over £5 million on research each year.
It is likely that the money received from Alliance will be spent on raising awareness about the disease, how to avoid it, and how to manage it. Awareness and prevention are thought to be key factors in the ongoing fight against the spread of the disease.
