A scientific study indicates that diabetes amongst black women is strongly affected by sugary drinks . The results were gleaned from the Black Women’s Health Study.
Boston and Harvard Universities conducted the study, which covered around 44,000 black women and assessed what distinguishes black female health issues from other groups. Of the study group, some 2,700 developed diabetes between 1995 and 2001.
The research team found that those who drunk sugary drinks were diagnosed with diabetes more often. Sugary drinks included some fruit juices, the researchers said. Lead author Julie Palmer was reported as commenting: "People are trying to be healthier and replace soft drinks with fruit drinks, and it's not reducing their risk of diabetes ."
