Diabetes UK Scottish Careline launches

Fri, 18 Jan 2008
According to reports in the diabetes news today, leading UK diabetes charity Diabetes UK has launched their unique Careline service to include a new Scottish base, centred in Glasgow .

Diabetes in Scotland has, unfortunately, increased significantly in the last decade, with new diagnosis increasing all the time. Accordingly, there is a significant new need for further diabetes information .

The Diabetes UK Scotland Careline has been created with the aim of being uniquely responsive to diabetic people living in Scotland. This type of on-the-ground, area-sensitive information could be of genuine use to the diabetic community, with calls from Scotland being answered in Scotland.

Diabetics wishing to call the Scottish Careline can call the same number as the UK Careline, 0845 120 2960. Calls will be answered by qualified counsellors based in the Scottish office.

Careline counsellor, Morag Ramsay, reportedly commented: "Research conducted by Diabetes UK Scotland has shown that there is a strong need for more information on all aspects of diabetes, available on an on-going basis, and for far better access to emotional support. Through Careline Scotland we aim to provide information and emotional support to help people living with diabetes, their families and carers learn more about the condition and how to manage it."
