Tabloid newspaper, The Sun, has broken news this morning regarding the influence of the credit crunch on diabetes . According to a study reported on earlier this week, lack of sleep and stress double the risk of developing type 2 diabetes .
Under a headline directly linking debt to diabetes, the Sun reported on research by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden . The article also linked financial trouble with heart attack risk, ulcers and digestion problems, not to mention psychological issues.
Diabetes has consistently been linked to mental problems such as depression and anxiety . Unfortunately, these conditions are often mutually reinforcing, in that stress may impact on diabetes, and diabetes management may exacerbate stress.
