Rural diabetes project gets USD5 million

Thu, 03 Jul 2008
According to diabetes reports from Canada, Alberta Health and Wellness will pay an expected $5 million to fund a project to help improve care for rural people living with diabetes .

The project will extend for a five year period, and be known as the Alberta Caring for Diabetes Project. Doctors and Researchers will work together to try and improve diabetes care in rural areas.

The leader of the project and professor at University of Alberta’s School of Public Health, Jeff Johnson, reportedly commented: "Capital Health and Calgary have really well-developed regional diabetes programs, but patients in rural areas don't have the same access to specialist care and the load on the primary care team is great."
