Diabetes and snoring linked

According to recent reports, those people that snore a lot could be facing a greater risk of diabetes . People suffering from sleep apnoea face a greater likelihood of type 2 diabetes, and vice versa.

Sleep apnoea is commonly recognised by people that briefly stop breathing at night and snort themselves awake. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has started to urge doctors treating one of the conditions to test for the other.

The co-chairman of the IDF task force on epidemiology and prevention, Paul Zimmet, was reported as saying: "There's no question about the link." The cause of the link remains to be seen, but several teams throughout the globe are thought to be working in this field.
