Joint guidelines issued today will update the protocol for managing type 2 diabetes . These new guidelines are designed to replace type 2 diabetes guidelines, and are designed as a reference point for healthcare professionals.
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the National Collaborating Centre for Chronic Conditions (NCC-CC) released the guidelines. The guidelines suggest that those with type 2 diabetes should be provided with structured and constant education from the moment of diagnosis.
Healthcare professionals are also being advised to provide patients with specific guidance on a number of key issues. These key recommendations will refer to HbA1c targets, ongoing nutritional advice, therapy, self-management education, information about hypoglycaemia, support and much more.
