NHS may not meet diabetes targets

Fri, 02 May 2008
According to reports in the diabetes news, many Primary Care Trusts are failing to deliver diabetes related goals, and not actively attempting to identify diabetics at an early stage.

Key government targets for improving levels of diabetes care could be missed, according to leading diabetes charity Diabetes UK . Diabetes UK warn that PCTs could miss key goals in a postcode lottery of diabetes care.

The Government, that initiated a ten-year government plan for better levels of diabetic care, may see PCTs failing to achieve goals. Apparently, levels of PCTs with a plan in place to identify new diabetics has fallen between two years ago and now.

Diabetes UK issued a statement that reported said: "While there has been progress against the standards outlined in the National Service Framework for Diabetes, this is not sufficient and there is still a significant amount to do before the NSF vision of high quality diabetes services for all is achieved. If progress in improving standards continue to vary across England, the NHS will not achieve the standards in the NSF by 2013."
