According to diabetes reports from Canada, as many as half of Canadians with diabetes are not properly controlling their condition. To try and aid research in this field, pharmaceutical company Pfizer Canada are donating $500,000 to a London research team.
The grant will go to help the groundbreaking work of Dr. Stewart Harris, currently the Canadian Diabetes Association Chair in Diabetes Management at the University of Western Ontario.
According to Harris’s research, much can be done to help people with diabetes in Canada control their condition effectively. The research money will help to evaluate how these individuals can better manage their condition, and also assess how people with pre-diabetes may avoid the disease.
Canada is reported to have a diabetes population of 2.4 million people.
