Canadian doctors may have found a way to use gastric surgery to treat severe obesity, a procedure that could help people with type 2 diabetes . Gastric bypass surgery is already regarded as one of the most important potential treatments in chronic disease since insulin was discovered.
However, the exact mechanisms of the surgery remain to be seen. The operation has already helped some patients become free from their diabetes . One patient, Cindy Dugas, reportedly commented: "My goal is to live without diabetes . You are looking at nerve damage, you are looking at liver damage, you are looking at heart damage, and I don't want to be looking at those things."
Dr. Mehran Anvari reportedly commented: "This is at the moment the only treatment being evaluated as a potential cure for diabetes ."
