Diabetes epidemic could be prevented

With recent reports from America indicating that diabetes has more than doubled in the last decade in most states, plus a soaring cost of treatment, diabetes in American can truly be termed an epidemic.

Spiralling rates of diabetes are largely fed by type 2 diabetes increases. Type 2 diabetes is often linked with weight and obesity, although this is not always the case. Badly managed blood glucose levels can give rise to all sorts of diabetes complications, including heart attacks, strokes, blindness and amputation .

The saddest thing about the type 2 diabetes epidemic is that it is almost always preventable, but this also gives hope for the future. Lifestyle changes and early medication can control type 2 diabetes and halt it at the pre-diabetes stage, stopping development in its tracks.
