The Scottish and Norwegian medical diagnosis kit developer, Axis-Shield, announced yesterday that they had been given patent approval for the technology used in their diagnostic diabetes test, in Japan.
The company, which has HQs in both Oslo and Dundee, claimed that the patent is a major step forward and complements previous US and European patent approval.
The diabetes diagnostic test, Afinion, has been designed for use in hospitals, surgeries and other health centre sites. Known as the Afinion HbA1c kit, the system helps people with diabetes to monitor long-term blood sugar levels. Furthermore, the kit reportedly takes half the time of other tests.
Getting fast and accurate results is one of the most important factors when testing for diabetes . Type 2 diabetes is a preventable disease, and can often be stopped by adjusting diet and exercise .
