Following reports that the National Health Services spends £1 million on diabetes throughout the UK, it appears that in Northern Ireland some £1 million per day is accounted for.
A reported published on Wednesday by the leading diabetes charity, Diabetes UK, indicates diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes, is one of the leading health challenges being faced today by the country.
Diabetes UK Northern Ireland director, Ian Foster, was reported as commenting: "Diabetes leads to heart disease, stroke, amputations, kidney failure and blindness . It causes more deaths than breast and prostate cancer combined."
The results were unveiled as part of the new ‘Silent Assassin’ campaign released by Diabetes UK.
