According to a report that will be published in the New England Journal of Medicine, adults with type 1 diabetes who choose continuous glucose monitoring devices are able to manage their condition better than using conventional treatment methods.
The results of the study, paid for by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, were unveiled at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes annual meeting in Rome.
The study, which was coordinated by the Jaeb Center for Health Research in Tampa, gave each patient a continuous glucose monitoring device. Study author Roy Beck reportedly commented: "One important practical implication is that this is the first study to definitively provide good evidence of the benefit of continuous glucose monitoring — the type of evidence needed for insurers to agree to pay for it."
