According to reports in the diabetes news, Vitamin D could provide protection against type 2 diabetes . New research indicates that men with high blood levels of Vitamin D were less likely to develop the common form of diabetes . Amongst women, the affect was reduced.
To reach the conclusions, scientists in Finland monitored several thousand people aged between 40 and 74. The research lasted for a 22 year period, during which time 412 of the study group developed the disease . Those with higher levels of Vitamin D had a greater resistance to the disease. Experts suggest that low levels of Vitamin D influence the ability of the body to product insulin .
