According to recent diabetes news reports, teams of scientists in both Oregon and India are advancing towards the development of the first saliva test to diagnose diabetes . The test will also be able to monitor efficiency of type 2 diabetes treatment .
To reach their goal, the research team has mapped the proteins in the saliva of patients with type 2 diabetes . In order to prevent diabetes complications, the research team pointed out, early diagnosis is essential.
The perceived pain of needles and the difficulty of blood tests may put many patients off from both early diabetes diagnosis and also more efficient management of blood sugar levels .
The team found 65 proteins that appeared twice as often amongst people with diabetes when compared to non-diabetes samples.
