According to recent research, people with diabetes could face greater risks of cognitive decline, and in the long run neurological problems such as Alzheimers disease .
A research team at the University of Alberta examined how mental processing is affected in adults with diabetes . They found that amongst diabetics, response times and executive functioning were sometimes compromised.
The results of the study were published in the journal Neuropsychology. Alzheimer’s has previously been linked to diabetes, but the test results will further aid in understanding neurological conditions.
Diabetes is an extremely common chronic disease that occurs in two distinct types. Type 2 diabetes, sometimes called adult-onset diabetes, is usually linked to diet and lifestyle. Type 1 diabetes, also called juvenile diabetes, requires daily insulin injections to keep blood glucose levels stable.
