If you know someone who has had diabetes for over fifty years, leading UK diabetes charity Diabetes UK will reward them with a Diabetes UK medal. People with diabetes may also nominate themselves for a medal.
The medals are offered by the Diabetes UK Supporter Services, and currently have three levels. The medals are named after the founding fathers of the diabetes charity . The medals include the Alan Nabarro Medal (50 years living with diabetes ), the Robert Lawrence Medal (60 years of living with diabetes ) and the John Macleod Medal (70 years of living with diabetes.)
Diabetes UK require a letter of confirmation from a GP or other healthcare professional. To nominate an individual, just write a letter to the charity detailing who the individual is, their year of diabetes diagnosis, and where the medal should be sent to.
