Pharmaceutical company Bayer Diabetes Care has launched a new blood glucose meter to help children with diabetes better manage their condition. The meter connects with a Nintendo DS and DS Lite games console to provide an accurate blood glucose reading.
Called the DIDGET, the blood glucose monitor will help children with diabetes when they test consistently and meet personalised blood sugar level targets. At this stage, the meter will shortly be available in the UK and Ireland. Children that meet targets can unlock new game levels and even buy items with the included game.
A professor in paediatric endocrinology at Cardiff University, John Gregory, was reported in diabetes news as commenting: "Because it is designed with children in mind, Bayer’s DIDGET meter can transform a child’s blood glucose testing experience from something they have to do into something they want to do."
The meter has been created specifically to challenge the issued facing children with diabetes. Register now on the DIDGET website to be alerted when the meter is launched.
