Swine flu is apparently more likely to strike those with asthma, and also those with diabetes . Although diabetics don’t necessarily face a greater risk of catching swine flu, they are in a high risk group when it comes to managing the virus alongside their condition .
Care Advisor at leading diabetes charity Diabetes UK, Caroline Butler, reportedly commented: " People with diabetes are a high risk group when it comes to managing the flu. Having flu can really upset diabetes control and cause blood glucose levels to fluctuate. This can leave people with diabetes open to many health problems, including complications of flu such as pneumonia and bronchitis."
Other patients with respiratory problems, kidney disease, liver disease, neurological disease are also being given specific warning regarding H1N1. Furthermore, pregnant women are being given specific advice regarding swine flu – largely to avoid unnecessary travel and crowds.
