Sir Steven Redgrave interviewed about diabetes

Celebrity diabetic and legendary Rower Sir Steven Redgrave has given an interview to the BBC about his life, his sport, and his diabetes . Sir Steve is well known for being modest about his diabetes struggle, and humble about the fact that he has won no less than five Olympic gold medals.

In the BBC interview, he reportedly commented: "I'm just an ordinary guy who went quite quick in a boat, really. I don't really want to jump on the bandwagon and say, 'Oh look at me, I'm a diabetic, what a terrible condition this is.’ I will drip feed information out there, and people that want to know, I'm happy to tell."

However, Redgrave makes it clear that diabetes is a serious condition but it doesn’t have to be a stumbling block. In the interview, he was cited as saying: "It's a very very serious condition but dealt with properly, and looked after well, there's no reason why you can't carry on your normal lifestyle ."

Sir Steve was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 35, and controls his blood sugar using a small insulin pump .
