A recent study indicates that telemedicine could be very helpful for children to manage diabetes care . The new technology could help school nurses to help children with type 1 diabetes to better manage their condition.
Experts from the SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, studied just over 40 children with type 1 diabetes . All children received routine care, but 23 of the study group were enrolled in a telemedicine intervention program.
The telemedicine group reported improve blood glucose control, less visits to emergency or hospitalisations. Some 90 per cent of the group said they would use the program again.
Dr. Izquierdo reportedly commented: "Children in the telemedicine treatment group were more apt to feel better about their diabetes ."
