According to diabetes news today, eating nuts or even peanut butter could lower heart disease risk amongst women with type 2 diabetes . The study was based on participants numbering over 6,000, with the conclusion being that those who ate plenty of nuts or peanut butter cut their heart disease risk by as much as 50 per cent.
To reach their conclusions, the research team set participants a food questionnaire every two to four years over the study period, which ran from 1980 to 2002. This data was matched up with figures on heart attacks and strokes.
The research team, of the Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health, reportedly commented: "These data suggest that frequent nut and peanut butter consumption is associated with a significantly lower CVD risk in women with Type 2 diabetes ."
