According to diabetes news, the bark of a Himalayan plant could have a role to play in treating diabetes . A team in Ireland found that the bark could help as a type 2 diabetes treatment.
Researchers at the University of Ulster in Coleraine, Co. Londonderry, found that the Chirette contains compounds that could stimulate insulin production and improve the action of the hormone .
The team presented their findings at the Diabetes UK annual professional conference in Glasgow . Lead researcher Dr. Abdel-Wahab reportedly commented: "Natural anti-diabetic drug discovery is a key area of research that is attracting a lot of interest. More research is needed to establish definitively how and if our findings could be translated into new therapeutic agents for treatments for people with Type 2 diabetes, but we are hopeful that this will one day be the case."
