Diabetes tests raise UAE doubts

According to recent tests carried out by United Arab Emirates Ministry of Health, every single volunteer was assessed as being overweight . The 400 volunteers were tested for diabetes in the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai, and every one had a higher than recommended body mass index .

Sanofi-Aventis, who had a hand in the tests, were reported as commenting that the: "volunteers were potentially at risk from diabetes or heart disease because of their higher than average weight / height ratio."

Jean-Marc Voissier was further reported as saying that more needs to be done to educate people about diet and exercise . He reportedly commented: "The screening statistics are extremely worrying and we have to bring an end to this cycle of diabetes . We need education, education and more education."

Diabetes is thought to affect some 20% of people with diabetes in the country.
