Hospital for life for diabetes sufferer

A diabetes sufferer is being forced to spend every night in hospital, for the rest of her life after being diagnosed with the first case of a unique blood condition. Alice Halstead has type 1 diabetes, but also suffers from a rare anomaly that makes insulin injection a critical business.

Insulin sticks to Alice’s antibodies, builds up and is then released in large doses into her bloodstream. The chances of being diagnosed with the rare form of diabetes is 6.7 billion to one. There are reportedly no other sufferers in the entire world.

Miss Halstead of Skipton, North Yorks, reportedly commented: "My condition is one of a kind. Nobody knows if I will ever get out of hospital, I could spend the rest of my life here - it's a terrible thought. I spent 16 years living a healthy, normal life and I never thought I would be in the situation I am in now or spend years in hospital. It’s been such a rollercoaster."
