According to international news reports, a cheap pill taken by millions of people with diabetes throughout the world could be the key to a longer, healthier life . The diabetes drug in question, Metformin, costs from 2 pence per tablet.
As well as keeping humans agile and mentally sharp, indications are that the diabetes drug could prevent people from putting on weight. Meformin is internationally prescribed to help people control their blood sugar levels, and has been for over 50 years .
Professor Withers, who led the study, made it clear that by Metformin is should by no means be taken by healthy adults with the aim of increasing their lifespan. One researcher, Dr. Gems, was reported as saying: 'We are suddenly much closer to treatments for ageing than we thought.
