Join My Voice, young people with diabetes urged

According to diabetes news, the winner of the X Factor last year is calling on young people who are affected by diabetes to join with a charity initiative for under 18s. Alexandra Burke is launching a Diabetes UK campaign called My Voice which aims to support children and young people with diabetes to get their voices heard.

Alexandra has personal experience of diabetes, with her mother a type 2 diabetic who has faced serious complications, including kidney failure. The aim of My Voice is to get attention of the challenges and issues being faced by young people with diabetes. This could be achieved by writing to MPs, spreading diabetes education and generally acting as a network to draw greater attention.

Alexandra was reported in the news as commenting: "I fully support Diabetes UK’s My Voice campaigners network because I really believe that young people have the power to make a difference. The fantastic thing about My Voice is that young people will not only help campaign for real improvements but will have the chance to develop and learn skills, meet new people and have fun doing it too."
